Waco: The Aftermath – Limited Series [2023] on Paramount+/Showtime

Waco: The Aftermath picks up a couple of months after the original Showtime series. Better, sharper, and even more honest than its predecessor.

Waco: The Aftermath speaks with a double-edged sword. It pulls no punches when talking about the cover up of government or the insanity of Koresh and his followers. It’s well acted and directed and provides a good history into the roots of the extremism we say today. There are no heroes.

Mixing flashbacks filling in some much-needed information about how Koresh came to be, the show keeps things entertaining by moving the story forward using real life footage as well as reenactments. In fact, the shows stand on its own as a well-made drama thanks to the powerful performances of Michael Shannon & Keean Johnson.

However, in seeking to overcome the “Why?” question surrounding these kind of events, directors/producers Drew Dowdle and John Erick Dowdle make a compelling argument that the legacy of Waco is still very much alive and integrated into US politics.

Should you watch it?

Facts aside, it’s a good show. The series shows all sides as it is. “Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right” and Big Brother orchestrating it all.
